India Tour for Foreigners: 7, 10 and 14 Day Itineraries with a Private Driver

Most of our guests are foreign travelers visiting India for the first time, from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and all over Europe. The question we hear most often is simple: “How many days do we need, and what route should we take?” Here are the three India tour itineraries for foreigners that our guests love most, all done by private car with an English speaking driver.

Why Foreigners Tour India by Private Car

India is big, busy and wonderful, but getting around on your own can be tiring: crowded stations, taxi bargaining and long waits. A private car and driver in India takes that away. Your driver picks you up at Delhi airport, stays with you for the whole trip, waits while you visit each monument and helps with restaurants, shopping and local customs.

  • One trusted person for the whole trip instead of a new taxi every day.
  • Door-to-door travel from hotel to monument, with your luggage safe in the car.
  • Flexible days: stop for chai, photos or a village visit whenever you like.
  • Safe for families and solo women travelers, with the same verified driver every day.

7 Days: Golden Triangle with Ranthambore or Pushkar

The classic first India tour. Seven days lets you see Delhi, the Taj Mahal and Jaipur without rushing, plus one extra experience.

DayPlan
Day 1Arrive in Delhi, airport pickup by your driver, rest at the hotel
Day 2Old and New Delhi: Jama Masjid, rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar
Day 3Drive to Agra (about 3.5 hours), Agra Fort and Taj Mahal sunset from Mehtab Bagh
Day 4Taj Mahal at sunrise, Fatehpur Sikri and the Abhaneri stepwell on the way to Jaipur
Day 5Jaipur: Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal and the bazaars
Day 6Tiger safari in Ranthambore, or a same day Jaipur to Pushkar tour
Day 7Drive back to Delhi (about 5 hours) for your flight home

10 Days: Golden Triangle and Rajasthan

Ten days is the sweet spot for most foreign travelers. After Delhi, Agra and Jaipur you continue into the heart of Rajasthan.

  • Days 1–5: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur as above.
  • Day 6: Jaipur to Pushkar, the holy lake town with its Brahma Temple and ghats.
  • Days 7–8: Jodhpur, the Blue City, and the mighty Mehrangarh Fort.
  • Days 9–10: Udaipur, the City of Lakes, with a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Fly back to Delhi or drive on.

This is close to our Golden Triangle Tour with Rajasthan, which we tailor to your dates.

14 Days: Royal Rajasthan and the Ganges

With two weeks you can see the best of North India: forts, palaces, desert and the spiritual Ganges.

  • Days 1–5: Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
  • Days 6–7: Mandawa in Shekhawati, famous for its painted havelis, then Bikaner.
  • Days 8–9: Jaisalmer, the Golden City, with a camel safari in the Thar Desert.
  • Days 10–11: Jodhpur and Ranakpur’s carved Jain temple.
  • Days 12–13: Udaipur and its lake palaces.
  • Day 14: Fly to Delhi, or swap the last days for Varanasi or Haridwar and Rishikesh to see the Ganga Aarti.

Ajay’s Insider Insight

"Many first-time visitors try to see too much. In India, four hours of driving is a full travel day once you add a lunch stop and a few photos. Plan two nights in each main city and you will enjoy it much more."

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the best season for a North India tour, with sunny days and cool evenings. April to June is very hot in Rajasthan and Agra, and July to September is the monsoon. If you travel in March, try to time your trip with Holi, the festival of colours. See our month-by-month guide for more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do foreigners need for a first India tour?

For a first visit to North India, 7 to 10 days is ideal. Seven days covers the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur at a relaxed pace, and 10 days lets you add Udaipur, Jodhpur or Pushkar in Rajasthan.

Is it better to tour India by private car or by train?

For most foreign tourists a private car with an English speaking driver is easier: door-to-door pickup, no luggage on platforms, no ticket queues and the freedom to stop wherever you like. Trains work well for long single legs such as Delhi to Varanasi.

Can the driver pick us up from Delhi airport?

Yes. Your driver meets you at Delhi airport arrivals with a name sign, including late-night international flights, and the tour can start straight from the airport.

Can we change the itinerary during the tour?

Yes. With a private driver the route is yours. Tell your driver if you want more time somewhere or a new stop, and we will adjust hotels and timings with you.

How do we book from the USA, UK or Europe?

Send us your dates, number of travelers and the places you want to see on WhatsApp or through the contact form. We reply with a custom itinerary and a clear quote, and you can change it until it is right.
